Embracing UN-Perfect
We live in two realities –
1 John 3:2 refers to them as the “now” and the “not-yet.” Daily reminders of the brokenness of a fallen world coupled with our hope in a future where every hurt is healed. That creates tension.
But I believe the abundant life God promises us in John 10:10 was meant to be lived in both realities.
This interview/talk is based on my 7-day Dive where we take a look at 7 obstacles that can prevent us from living fully amid the lives God has given us here on earth.
Suggested Interview questions/topics covered:
*What is meant by the word UN-perfect, and why do we need to embrace it when Jesus himself calls us to live “perfect” lives in Matthew 5?
*What are some of the obstacles that keep us from fully living our lives in the now and the not-yet, and what iss the desired outcome of overcoming each?
*Would you give us a few action steps to start with that might help us overcome some of these obstacles?
*What surprised you as you studied what God’s Word had to say on these topics?
HESED: the lavish, loyal love of God in the Old Testament
I’ve long thought the Hebrew children of the Old Testament were among the most stubborn and foolish people in the history of humanity. Every story of their journey had me scratching my head, thinking, “Why on earth would you do that?” However, my own journey with Jesus has proved that the short distance from those Old Testament “screw-ups” to my heart was a path of pretense. I am the foolish child of God, guilty of the same changes in direction, idolatry, ingratitude, belief in the lies of the enemy, and short-term memory regarding God’s faithfulness as the Israelites I had previously scorned.
Using Psalm 78 as a springboard, this study includes Israel’s history and spiritual significance that extends beyond that time and into the New Testament and today. As we take a deeper look at Israel’s poets, prophets, priests, and kings, our eyes are opened to the “Hesed” love of God. The Old Testament reveals the heart of a Father with loving-kindness and tender mercies who makes His continual appearance in the lives of His chosen people long before He appears to a chorus of angels in the city of Bethlehem.
