Empathic Listening to Promote Growth and Healing
Trained Counselors use the powerful tool of Empathic listening to promote growth and healing in others- but it’s a skill we all should learn to utilize as we hold space for others who share their stories with us. It allows us as believers in Christ to reflect to others the presence of God With Us, Emanuel.
Empathic Listening to Promote Growth
It is a communication skill and active listening approach characterized by the genuine and compassionate effort to understand and connect with the speaker’s emotions, thoughts, and perspective. It goes beyond simply hearing words or receiving information, as it involves a deep and sincere attempt to emotionally resonate with the speaker, demonstrating empathy, patience, and nonjudgmental support. And it tends to go against every fiber of how I have spent my life “listening” to others in conversations.
In today’s episode of the UN-Perfect Podcast, I have the privilege of interviewing Dr. Jackie Perry, founder and president of the SoulWell Center, as she talks about this type of listening and why it matters. She touches on how we can include our minds, souls, and bodies in this practice and why it’s essential to do so.

I have completed the level one course and found the information and skills learned there life-changing! And it continues to change how I see and hear my kids as I parent them and my friends as I listen to them share their stories with me. I can’t recommend this training enough.
