If you’re desperately trying to find the balance between finding hope while you’re getting through hard times, my conversation today with author/poet Tanner Olsen is going to be a breath of fresh air for you.

Episode #130: Getting Through Hard Times and Finding Hope

My guest on UnPerfect today knows the struggle of finding hope while navigating hard times. Tanner Olson is an author, spoken word poet, and speaker. He travels across the country sharing poetry and telling stories of grace and hope. His work has been described as “hopefully unique and inviting,” blending faith, humor, and curiosity.

Tanner is the author of multiple books, including Walk A Little Slower: A Collection of Poems and Other Words, All the Things I Say to God (Zonderkidz, 2025), and his latest is actually being released today, Getting Through What You’re Going Through: Notes and Poems for Hoping and Becoming (Zondervan, 2026).

Tanner doesn’t take himself too seriously, drinks his coffee black (but let’s not hold that against him), and cheers for the Orlando Magic. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife, Sarah, their son, Judah, and their dog, Pancake. Why Pancake? Listen in to find out!…

Hang in there, sister. God is inviting you to rest in him today, no matter what you’re going through.

Xoxo,

As followers of Jesus, we are not immune to being human in a broken world where life is hard. But we are not without an eternal hope to “rest in,” as Tanner so beautifully reminds us. This collection will make you laugh, sigh, reflect, and, most importantly, hope.
