How to Reel In Busyness, A Barrier to Balance
In episode #11 of The UN-Perfect Podcast, we are talking all things Busyness, a barrier to balance in our lives. Sandy Cooper, author, podcaster, and “queen” of helping frazzled moms find peace, joins us today to give us insight into this topic.
· Sandy Cooper is the host of “The Balanced Momcast” (one of my faves!) and the author of three books, one of which is “Finding Your Balance” – a Bible Study that covers the topic of Busyness as well as other barriers to balance in our lives as women of God.
You’ll love her humor, authenticity, and wisdom on the causes, effects, and remedies to busyness. The conversation was so interesting and deep that I’ve divided it into two episodes, so make sure to tune in next week to part 2 of this series!
In this episode:
· Sandy Cooper defines busyness as one of the four barriers to balance, along with perfectionism, comparison, and people-pleasing.
· Busyness is often a result of these other barriers and can be challenging to address.
· Busyness becomes problematic when it evolves into hurry, affecting one’s heart and attitude.
· Sandy references the story of Mary and Martha from Luke 10 to highlight how hurry can lead to distraction and worry.
Sandy outlines the problems associated with busyness, a barrier to balance:
1. It affects the heart and attitude.
2. It hinders the ability to love others well.
3. It reduces productivity and creativity.
4. It contributes to physical and mental health issues.
5. It makes individuals unavailable to loved ones.
6. It hinders one’s availability to God and His assignments.
Types of Busy People:
· Sandy discusses two types of busy people:
1. The Poor Time Manager: Individuals who struggle with time management and often feel overwhelmed by tasks.
2. Those Who Know Their Priorities but Lack Self-Discipline: Individuals who know what’s important but have difficulty maintaining focus and avoiding distractions.
· In part 2 of this series, episode #12, we will explore further types of busy people in more depth and discuss strategies to combat busyness.
