12 Reasons You Don’t Have Peace at Your Table – part 2
If you don’t have peace at your table, today’s episode exists to help you uncover some hidden hurdles we may experience as we approach mealtime. (If you missed part 1 of this series, head here for the first eight reasons you don’t have peace at your table:).
Today, in episode 25, I continue my discussion with registered dietician Jane Curry Weber for part 2 of 12 Reasons You Don’t Have Peace at Your Table. If you missed part one, head back to episode 24, where we cover the first eight reasons you don’t have peace at your table. They ranged from feeling rushed or not even having a table available to giving shame a seat, food scars, and emotional eating, to name a few.
Jane is a Dietitian who has helped individuals and families work towards better nutrition for 20+ years. Listen in as she discusses the remainder of her “12 Reasons You Don’t Have Peace at Your Table.”
Why You Don’t Have Peace at Your Table Reasons 9-12:
- 9. Picky eating – some who dine with you will not eat what you make, no matter how hard you try.
- 10. Cravings take over, and you feel out of control when you eat.
- 11. Cooking skills – they are not there yet, or you simply have no interest.
- 12. You’re not setting a place for Peace itself at your table yet. And if you are being honest, you don’t see how that will change anything.
Creative Strategies to overcome the hidden hurdles when you don’t have peace concerning mealtime…
Jane also shared some ideas with us to help us find more rest at our tables, such as:
- Not offering much choice for our smaller children -for example, offer two types of similar foods or two foods cooked in different ways.
- For older kids, make sure there’s at least one thing they prefer at the table for a meal and allow them to fill up on that one thing.
- Discover the reasons behind your cravings, and don’t be afraid to get professional help if the challenges are too great to overcome alone.
- Meals don’t have to be perfect or fancy – if cooking is not your thing, just work on adding more balance, such as baby carrots to go along with the frozen lasagna.
- Follow Jesus’ example and “flip the tables” that shouldn’t be present — He Himself is our Peace! (Ephesians 2:14).
